Groove Study Tip of the Week:
Build Listening Skills While Checking Out your Favorite Band.

Groove Study tip of the Week
: While you are working on your groove, use and develop your listening skills while listening to your favorite band or other bands' live performances.
You can use the technique in the "Listening to your self as you play" exercise in the "Listening" chapter. This will require you to develop and use a form of split focus – in this case, listening to 2 instruments (or more if you like), i.e. drums and bass, at the same time. As you listen to the players perform the song live, try to discern how well the player lock or play together, note placement, length of notes, phrasing, etc.. Try using your split focus skills by listening to the entire band to analyze who well they groove together. This tip can help you to sharpen your listening skills so that they become second nature.
